Teens on Stage

For ages 13–18

This intensive five week theatre program culminates in 12 performances of East of the Sun and West of the Moon, which opens Raleigh Little Theatre’s 2012–2013 Season. TOS students take morning conservatory classes which include movement, acting, voice and improvisation. The afternoons are spent in rehearsal.

About the TOS play: East of the Sun and West of the Moon, about a brave young woman, is based on a Norwegian folktale. In the midst of a bitter winter, a great White Bear visits the home of a peasant family struggling to stay alive. The Bear promises the parents great riches if they allow their oldest daughter, Tove, to come and live with him. The girl’s father doesn’t want her to go but, oddly, her mother insists.

Knowing that it will help her brothers and sisters who are starving, Tove agrees and makes the long journey with the Bear to his castle where she discovers that he is actually a Prince who has been bewitched. She falls in love with him but suddenly he is taken to the land of the Trolls. She boldly begins a treacherous journey to save him from a dismal fate. On the way she encounters eerie hags, the four winds, dangerous trolls and an unexpected surprise.
