This coming-of-age tale, set in WWII, strikes a perfect balance between comedy and tragedy. The play’s strength lies in its larger view of how human differences, pain and lots of humor go into the making of a family. It’s an ageless and universal theme which Neil Simon pursued with great dramatic insight to win a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1991 Tony Award for Best Play.
