The Piano LessonBy August Wilson
The decade is the 1930s, the place, Pittsburgh. Boy Willie arrives from the south to claim his "half of the piano." The piano is a family heirloom carved with the images of enslaved ancestors of the family and his sister Berneice is not willing to part with it. To her family, it meant more than a piano... it was their legacy and their future. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best New Play, 1990. Director: Haskell Fitz-Simons Read the reviewsThe News & Observer says "...the characters are endearingly funny and warmly moving by turns, especially in the hands of this engaging cast." Read the complete Roy Dicks review. The Independent Weekly gave the show four stars and says "Wilson's characters grapple—literally, at times—with the troubled legacy of their pasts in this compelling production. Recommended". Read the Byron Woods review. Triangle Arts & Entertainment says "a juicy and flavorful slice of life in the black community in the Hill District of the Steel City, circa 1936.
