Job opening: Scenic DesignerRaleigh Little Theatre, a 75 year old community theatre, is seeking a full-time scenic designer. Must have high level skills as a scenic designer plus some collateral skills as such as those of a lighting designer. Must be ready and able to work with the Technical Director to form a two-person technical team to build and realize (as well as be able to lift and carry) all sets and props. Drafting and carpentry skills a must. The right candidate will have superior people skills and be a skillful motivator and organizer. Ability to work patiently and productively with the varied skill levels in our volunteer base is most important. Responsibilities: assist in the scheduling and budgeting of shows; design & construct sets for theatrical productions as scheduled; undertake a number of lighting designs as scheduled; supervise volunteer crews for the three-stage theatre; actively recruit and retain a pool of available volunteers; coordinate workshops, classes, and other continuing educational activities; teach the technical theatre summer conservatory. Requirements: MFA/MA in technical theatre preferred or 5 – 7 years equivalent experience. Salary commensurate with experience starting in the low-to-mid $30,000’s plus benefits. Position to begin in the fall of 2011.
